ASUS Announces World’s First EPYC 2U6N High-Density Server

TAIPEI, Taiwan, November 9, 2020 — ASUS, the leading IT company in server systems, server motherboards and workstations, today announced the all-new RS620SA-E10-RS12, a new server targeting web-hosting services, content-delivery networks (CDN), enterprise virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) applications, high-performance computing (HPC) and data analysis.

 

RS620SA-E10-RS12 is the world’s first 2U6N high density server focusing on extreme computing density in 2U form factor. It perfectly melds high computing density and an organized-cabling design to meet the requirements of standard datacenter environments, without modifications. The new server also has exceptional environmental credentials, recently achieving the world’s highest SPEC Power ranking for energy efficiency for a high-density server powered by AMD® EPYC 7002 processors.[i]

 

World’s first 2U6N high-density server

RS620SA-E10-RS12 contains six nodes in 2U chassis and each node is powered by an AMD EPYC 7002 processor. This supports a TDP of up to 280 watts[ii] and up to 64 cores per node, and PCI Express® (PCIe®) 4.0 bandwidth including one PCIe 4.0 x16 slot and one OCP 3.0 slot.[iii] The PCIe 4.0 x16 slot supports a low-profile GPU such as NVIDIA® T4 to accelerate a diverse range of AI inferencing workloads. RS620SA-E10-RS12 also has support for 12 hot-swappable storage bays, enabling extreme flexibility. This includes up to six SATA/SAS hard drives and six NVMe SSDs, or all 12 bays populated with NVMe SSD storage. With the dual advantages of high core-counts and high transfer speeds, RS620SA-E10-R12 offers superior overall system flexibility.

 

RS620SA-E10-RS12 equipped with full PCIe 4.0 support in storage and networking interface controllers (NICs) to meet requirements on high-speed transfers for high-performance computing, artificial intelligence and data-processing applications. With the maturity of software-defined storage (SDS) and software-defined networking (SDN), enterprises are more willing to embrace hyper-converged infrastructure (HCI) for business operation. RS620SA-E10-RS12 recently achieved the highest rankings on the respected SPEC Power suite of benchmarks for energy efficiency, and performed by the Standard Performance Evaluation Corporation (SPEC, www.spec.org). It was tested based on AMD EPYC 7742 processors, using both Windows Server and Linux — the most popular operating systems used in data centers — to ensure the benchmarks results are relevant to real-world performance and operating conditions. These results are current as of October 12, 2020.[iv]

 

Green awareness and power consumption have become important topics in the server industry. In 2019, ASUS launched a server thermal-control technology called Thermal Radar 2.0, which provides real-time server temperature monitoring and dynamic fan-curve adjustments for lower fan power consumption. RS620SA-E10-RS12 also includes ASUS Power Balancer, an exclusive technology that enables ASUS servers to adjust the overall loading of CPU cores and frequencies automatically based on real-time CPU loading monitoring.
